UNOPS celebrates 10 years of impact in Ghana
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has celebrated a decade of operations in Ghana with a landmark event showcasing its contributions to sustainable development and partnership. The 10th anniversary brought together UNOPS staff, partners, and stakeholders to honor achievements and reaffirm the organization’s role as a trusted ally in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. The Deputy Executive Director of UNOPS, Ms Sonja Leighton Kone pledged UNOPS’ continued support in delivering practical, efficient, and cost effective solutions for humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding projects worldwide. She highlighted milestones in infrastructure development, procurement services, project management, human resources and financial management, as well as climate action and sustainability. The UN Resident Coordinator Zia Choudhury called for scaling up beyond pilot initiatives to transformative projects that change communities. He commended UNOPS’ remarkable footprint in Ghana and expressed gratitude to its staff for their resilience and agility, even in the face of financial challenges. Since launching operations in Ghana in 2015, UNOPS has implemented 24 projects worth USD 35.3 million. In 2025, Ghana joined Senegal to establish the UNOPS West Africa Multi Country Office, which now oversees 66 projects across 17 countries.
