United Nations in Ghana launches Youth Innovation Challenge as part of UN@80 commemoration

30 June 2025

Accra, 30 June 2025 — As the United Nations marks 80 years of global cooperation and progress, the UN in Ghana is placing youth at the heart of the future with the launch of the UN@80 Youth Innovation Challenge.  This is a bold call for young Ghanaians to lead with ideas that can transform their communities and the world.

The UN@80 Youth Innovation Challenge is a nationwide initiative inviting young Ghanaians to design creative, technology-driven, or policy-based solutions to tackle some of the global and national pressing challenges.

Held under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow Together: Youth-Led Innovations in Multilateralism — Celebrating UN @ 80,” the challenge seeks to empower the next generation to actively shape the future of global cooperation, advance UN reforms, and promote inclusive governance. Hosted on the official Unite Ideas Platform, a platform that engages people and organizations to develop open source solutions for social good, the Challenge is open to Ghanaians aged 15 to 35 living in Ghana. Young innovators are encouraged to submit practical solutions that support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promote meaningful youth participation in decision-making, and foster collaboration, creativity, and advocacy.

Key focus areas include:

  • Food Systems
  • Energy Access & Affordability
  • Digital Connectivity
  • Education
  • Jobs & Social Protection
  • Climate Change, Biodiversity & Pollution

Entries may range from mobile apps, digital tools, and policy briefs to awareness campaigns or community-led projects. Submissions can be made individually or in teams of up to five members.

"Young people are not just the future — they are the present. This challenge is a testament to the UN’s commitment to listen to their voices, invest in their ideas, and work together towards a fairer, more sustainable world," said the United Nations National Information Officer, Ms. Cynthia Prah.
