UN in Ghana commits at least $260m to support Ghana's development priorities between 2023 and 2025
The UN Resident Coordinator, Charles Abani made the commitment at the Global Citizen Festival in Accra today on behalf of the UN Country Team.
To support Ghana to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs and Agenda 2063, the UN in Ghana is gearing up to sign off its UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework with the Government of Ghana. The Cooperation Framework has three main outcomes – inclusive economic transformation, equitable access to social services, and durable peace and security in Ghana and across the sub-region.
At the 10th Global Citizen Festival, co-hosted by Accra, the UN Resident Coordinator announced a commitment of at least $260 million (2.6B Ghanaian Cedis) to empower people and institutions through capacity development and other support between 2023 and 2025 through the Cooperation Framework, while working to ensure that no one is left behind – women and girls, children, the youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized or excluded groups.
It further committed to work across sectors on climate change, digitalization, and urbanization and to mobilize additional resources for achieving the SDGs and encourage contributions to the UN Joint SDG Fund to support this ambition.
