United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas
14 May 2026
The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP) is a landmark international instrument adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on 28 September 2018 to recognize and protect the rights of peasants and others working in rural areas.
UNDROP responds to long-standing inequalities faced by rural populations—smallholder farmers, pastoralists, fishers, agricultural workers, and Indigenous communities—who are often disproportionately affected by poverty, land insecurity, climate change, and limited access to resources.
