UN Resident Coordinator H.E. Zia Choudhury meet President Mahama to deepen UN-Ghana ties on peacebuilding and sustainable development.
On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Ghana, H.E. Zia Choudhury, paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, following his assumption of duties as Head of the UN System in Ghana and Representative of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the United Nations and the Government of Ghana to advance national development priorities and promote regional peace and stability.

President Mahama welcomed strengthened UN support for Ghana’s peacebuilding architecture, including technical assistance to bolster local mediation efforts and address the proliferation of illicit small arms. He also emphasized the need for comprehensive land reforms to improve dispute resolution and modernize land governance systems in the country, especially in the North.
Reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to the “Big Push Agenda,” the President outlined key pillars including infrastructure development, industrial parks, healthcare, and education. Additional priorities discussed included boosting exports, advancing constitutional reforms, and aligning national efforts with the newly launched UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

H.E. Zia Choudhury reiterated the UN’s full support for Ghana’s development ambitions, emphasizing the country’s pivotal role in fostering peace and progress across West Africa.
