Celebrating 10 years of the Nelson Mandela Rules & 15 years of the Bangkok Rules

This Nelson Mandela International Day, Ghana joins the world in celebrating 10 years of the Nelson Mandela Rules and 15 years of the Bangkok Rules—global standards for the humane treatment of all persons deprived of liberty.

In this video, voices from across government, the Ghana Prisons Service, civil society, UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and persons with lived prison experience come together to reaffirm a shared commitment to prison and justice reform.

As a member of the Group of Friends of the Nelson Mandela Rules, Ghana continues to champion efforts to promote dignity, rehabilitation, and second chances.

UNODC works closely with the Ghana Prisons Service and partners to support prison reform, improve conditions of detention, and advance justice solutions that respect human rights. #MandelaDay2025
